Already operated and still wearing glasses? Choose for Add on IOLs

A cataract is clouding of the lens inside the eye, causing vision loss which makes things appear blurry, hazy or less colourful. This condition is treated with a cataract surgery and cannot be corrected with glasses, contact lenses or LASIK surgeries. In cataract surgery, the surgeon removes this cloudy lens and inserts a clear intraocular lens (IOLs), positioning it in the same location where your natural lens was occupied.

Patient s can choose various type of IOL like the multifocal which allows us to focus at all distances and hence we need not wear glasses or the patient can choose a monofocal IOL which corrects distance vision and glasses will be required for reading and near work. But if you have got your cataract surgery done long back with a mono-focal IOL and want multifocality now, you can choose an add on IOL.

In the 'Add-On' approach, an IOL specifically designed according to the patient's need is implanted above the existing IOL. The add on IOL can be used for distance and near vision (Multifocal), and also for patients with corneal astigmatism (Toric). This has gained popularity because they allow clearer vision at multiple distances rather than just a single distance.
