The department of ophthalmology deals with treatment and management of conditions of eyes. Disorders and diseases such as refractive errors, damage of optic nerve, proptosis, obstruction of tear duct, and cataracts are treated. Ophthalmological ailments
  • Myopia: It is a condition in which a person can not see the distant objects clearly. The vision may appear blurred. It is also called short-sightedness. Its symptoms are headaches, blurred vision, strain to the eye, frequent blinking, and eye rubbing.
  • Hyperopia: It is a condition in which the closely located objects are not noticeably clear, i.e., appear blurred. This is called far-sightedness. The symptoms of myopia are headache which is persistent, squinting, strain to the eye, blurred vision and difficulty doing activities such as reading and writing.
  • Conjunctivitis: It is an inflammation of the conjunctiva that forms the lining of eyelid and covers white part of eye. The eye may look pink or reddish. Along with that, burning sensation, pain, urge to scratch and itch may also occur. It can affect either or both the eyes.
  • Floater: A floater is a spot in the vision. It occurs due to changes brought on by age wherein vitreous humor liquifies. Symptoms of floaters are dark spots, transparent objects, and tiny shapes that settle down and go out of vision’s line are some of the symptoms of floaters. If the floaters increase, an eye doctor must be contacted immediately.
  • Glaucoma: It is a disease in which either harm is inflicted upon the optic nerve in eye, or it does not have intraocular pressure. Symptoms of glaucoma vary according to the type of the disease. When glaucoma is left untreated, it results in loss of vision.
  • Cataracts: In cataract, clouding of the lens occurs. Due to this clouding of the lens, vision loss may occur. Symptoms of glaucoma include blurred vision, double vision, appearance of colored halos, and glare around light while driving at night. When it is left untreated, it may progress and cover the entire eye.
